Game: NCAA 11
Team: Eastern Michigan (to start with)
Difficulty: Heisman
Sliders: Custom
Rosters: Custom
Minutes: 7

Notes: This is a Coach Mode dynasty. Auto-pass is turned on, and I'll just snap, kick, and make pre-snap adjustments. I will NOT control any players. I already got this running on another site, but it's just a few updates. So I'll catch it up and then continue on normally.

Intro

“Who’s this kid?”

“His name’s Grant Godfrey; doesn’t have much of an arm, but all the scouts claim he’s got the football smarts of coaching legends!”

The big time coach watched the game tape, and he saw the young quarterback making numerous pre-snap adjustments.

“I want this kid. We don’t need a quarterback; we need a winner, a leader. This kid has all the intangibles, and he’ll only make the smart throws. He’s gonna have a heck of a career at Alabama.”
___________________________________________________________________________________

My name’s Grant Godfrey, and I was born in Gordo, Alabama in 1977. I was raised to be the biggest Alabama football fan ever born, and that I was. I watched every single minute of every single game and could recite the entire roster off the top of my head. I knew every stat, every player, and every number.

Naturally, I wanted to play football for Alabama when I grew up, so my dad signed me up at a very young age. I was never the best athlete on the field. I was never the strongest or the fastest. I did not have the God-given talent and ability of most of the other children. But what I did have was a great head on my shoulders. All the knowledge bestowed upon me from my entire childhood filled with Alabama football gave me an advantage over the others, and I was the best leader on every team I was on. I always played quarterback, not because of an incredible arm or anything like that, but because I knew the playbooks better than anyone.

Every pass I threw wasn’t accurate, and not everyone made it to its intended destination, but I have to say a majority of them did. I would never throw into double coverage, and I would never bomb it deep in the hopes that my receiver would make a play. I would use smarts, and analyze the entire field in split seconds and use good judgment to decide where I should aim. Pre-snap, every coach said I made more adjustments than anyone they’d ever seen, even professionals.

Grade school, junior high, and then high school: I was the starting quarterback on every team I was ever a part of. Of course, my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I was only on junior varsity, but then I took over the reins the next season. I never put up the stats, but I managed the game well, and made those around me better.

I just kept playing, and the next thing I knew, I was being approached by scouts from the University of Alabama football program. It was my senior year, and the regular season was almost over. We stood with an undefeated record, so I was bound to draw attention to myself at the clutch, smart quarterback who increased the morale of everyone around him. But what I did not expect was scouts representing THE Alabama Crimson Tide to show up.

“Congratulations on the victory, Mr. Godfrey. We understand you’re looking to stay near home to play college ball?”

It took me a moment to answer. The very first thing I noticed about the man was the crimson-colored visor with the Alabama script “A” on it. All I did was smile as my hand slowly reached out to shake his.

“Ye….yes sir,” I shyly said nodding like an idiot.

“Would you be interested in playing ball for Alabama? Coach Stallings is very big on you. In fact, he’s gonna take a visit down here during the playoffs.”

My eyes shot wide open and my jaw dropped to the ground in awe. Did I hear that right? Was Gene Stallings, THE Gene Stallings actually planning on visiting my high school for me? “Really?”

The friendly scout smiled and bobbed his head. “Yessir, he’s gonna come down here and see you in person. Be sure to play your best next Friday. You’re definitely getting an offer if he likes what he sees.”

The stage was set. We had homecoming next week, and the final regular season matchup. Then it was on to the playoffs, where I would meet one of the greatest coaches to ever coach the Crimson Tide. However, it didn’t work out as planned.

“2nd and 13, ball on the Green Wave’s 48 yard line. Godfrey under center, he snaps and drops backs. He analyzes the field, and slings the ball just as he pulverized by one of the hardest hitting linebackers in the country. Oh no! He’s not getting up! He looks to be in a lot of pain right now!”

That was it. With one hit, my entire football career was over. My leg was broken in three places, and I had trouble walking normally for years. It all happened so fast. I snapped the ball, and read the play like I always do. But something went wrong. The linebacker hit me at just the right angle that I went flying into the turf leg first. It was a one-in-a-million injury. I guess I’m that one.
___________________________________________________________________________________

I still enrolled at Alabama under an academic scholarship, and I majored in sports management. That very campus is where I met my beautiful wife Amber. We began dating my sophomore year, and we married four years later. We now have a healthy ten year old boy.

Even though my football playing career was over, I didn’t want to waste my incredibly high football IQ. I looked into being a coach, hopefully someday the coach of the Crimson Tide. As soon as I graduated I returned to my high school and became the youngest assistant football coach in Gordo High School history.

Our teams were never that good, but when the head coach resigned, I finally got my chance at glory. My very first season we just missed the playoffs with a 5-5 record, but we finished with three straight victories. It wasn’t until my fourth season as head coach that we finally broke the barrier and progressed to the playoffs. We were blown out in the first round, but it was an accomplishment and it marked the first time the Green Wave went to the playoffs since my senior year.

After a few more seasons of early playoff departure, I was offered the title of Quarterback’s coach at a Division-III university in Georgia, the University of West Georgia. I quickly escalated my job until I became the assistant coach, but I never could claim the title of head coach.

But one day, I received an offer I couldn’t refuse. The Eastern Michigan University football program called and asked me to be their new head coach. That’s where this story takes off!

Eagles Fire English; Hire Godfrey

Posted Image
Ron English was fired after his very first season, in which the Eagles went winless and lost every game they played.

Ypslianti, Michigan- After just one season, albeit an 0-12 one, former Eastern Michigan Eagles football head coach Ron English was fired today. Apparently, the Eagles found a new head coach, but we'll get to that later. The firing of Ron English has some people calling racist, and they say the firing of him is discrimination. But can we really blame them? I mean, he went 0-12. He didn't win a single game, even ones that seemed pretty winnable. They gave up over 3,000 rushing yards last season, which was by far the worst in the nation. Only three of their losses were single digit games. Yes, teams such as Army, Toledo, Northern Illinois, and Kent State destroyed the Eagles.

In an attempt to find a good coach, they'll probably fire anyone after an 0-12 season, no matter how bad of a state the program is in. But they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this new coach. He was the assistant coach/offensive coordinator at one of the worst Division-III schools. How they even found out about him I'll never know. This is one of the most obvious acts of desperation I've ever seen. But who knows, maybe he's the guy that'll turn this program around. Grant Godfrey's his name, but I'm not sure what his game is.

The Call

"Two new messages."

"Oh, uh, hey there. How ya doin', Grant? It's me, your cousin Steve. Look, I'm in kind of a tight spot financially, and I'm looking to borrow a couple hundred bucks. Gimme a call."

"End of message. To repeat this message, press one. To delete this message, press seven. To hear more options, press four."

"Next message:"

"Hello, Mr. Grant Godfrey. This is Derrick Gragg, Athletic Director of the Eastern Michigan Eagles. After the recent firing of former head coach Ron English, we've been on the lookout for a new coach. You are exactly the kind of coach we need. Return this call as soon as possible."

"End of message. To repeat this message, press one. To delete this message, press seven. To hear more options, press four."

"Who was that?" said a female voice walking into the living room.

I looked over to see my wife, Amber. "Derrick Gragg of the Eastern Michigan Eagles football program. He's offered me a job."

Her eyes lit up. "Big-time college football! Are you going to accept?"

"I can't refuse. It's going to pay ten times that of my current job. Tell Starr that we're moving to Michigan." I responded.

She grew a smile that stretched from ear to ear as she kissed me and turned around. Even through childbirth, she kept her figure, and I watched as she walked into our son's room.

If you go winless I'd tend to think you'd lose every game you play :p I'm following.
